Museo Europeo de Arte Moderno (MEAM)

The European Museum of Modern Art is the first museum exclusively dedicated to the exhibition and promotion of art based on contemporary figuration. It belongs to the Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes, whose purpose is the promotion and diffusion of figurative art of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Following the same philosophy as the BAA, the MEAM’s aim is to find a new contemporary language that does not renounce tradition but arises from it. The MEAM is currently located in Palau Gomis , an old palace of the eighteenth century built in the Born district of Barcelona by Gomis, a merchant, in 1792. This neighborhood in which culture is always present is an area that has managed to unite tradition and modernity and has become a must for tourists interested in the arts and museums.

MEAM differs from other contemporary art museums by supporting artists who practice figurative art. These works are usually not exhibited in other museums, foundations or cultural institutions in which the concept of contemporaneity is vastly identified with experimentation, abstraction, video art, etc. The museum presents an extensive collection of contemporary figurative painting and sculpture, which includes 230 large-scale works of living artists, who have made their work in the 21st century.

The BAA close collaboration and partnership with the MEAM makes our educational programs a generator and a creative force for the next generation of figurative artists. In this way, we have also created a link for the development of joint exhibitions and the promotion of young artists among art galleries, opening them the doors to the current art market.
